10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning isn’t exciting for most of us. But it is important. As the holidays and winter come to an end and we start looking forward to spring, something within us tells us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve piled up throughout the winter months.

But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of a house?
The exterior of your home could probably use a little tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the curb appeal of your home in Sugar Land, and, even more important, will offer much-needed care and maintenance that will save a lot ofmoney in years to come.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the ideal time to clean your gutters, since so many of leaves and debris pile up in the fall and winter months. Pollen is at its highest in spring, making a huge mess in your gutters if they aren’t cleaned.

Plus, pests and critters are scavenging for places to build homes in spring, so having your gutters cleaned will help stop an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, rust stains and returning them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Exterior window cleaning is a must for spring cleaning. First floor windows won’t cause you too much of an issue, but second and third floor windows will be tougher to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is a tough chore, and will need a lot of supplies, not to mention going up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the best way to get the panes and the outer frame clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You do not want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty house. Which means you are going to want to pressure wash your home too!

Pressure washing is quick, effective and doesn’t cost too much. You can pressure clean your house, patio furniture, patios, porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your home, and you can stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your driveway and giving it a deep cleaning might seem silly since you will be driving on it, but actually, a clean, well-cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.

A professional pressure washer can do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel border to your driveway to really help it stand out!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your patio probably gets the most use in the summer months, so it can be easy to forget about it in the winter since you aren’t doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio can be in pretty rough condition the first time you step onto it in spring.

Detergent and water – and a little elbow grease – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you see signs of mold or algae, you might need to think about a more serious option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Mold and moss are typical roof problems in Sugar Land. While you’re cleaning the exterior of your home, it is an excellent time to pressure clean your roof too, but you will need to use a different process than the one you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.

If you start to see streaks on your roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is pretty obvious, too. These particles cannot be wiped off of shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof of your home. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your roof.

The ideal method for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and then let it sit. This mixture will kill any organic organisms on your roof without lowering its lifespan.

7. Clean up the Front

The front of your home is going to be what most people see, so try to make the best impression you can for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Returning home to a beautiful exterior will immediately improve your day, and will motivate you to spend a lot more time outside.

You can clean your front porch with soap and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and mud off of the front door, and think about painting it for a fresh look! Clean overlooked areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Garden Tools

You’ll soon be spending much more time outdoors, so spring is a wonderful time to organize everything you will need for outdoor chores.

Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment need to all have a specific place outside your home – somewhere that it is safe from harsh weather and not in sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring allows you to enjoy the exterior of your home much more throughout the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outside.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your yard, trees and garden bushes can make a huge impact on the overall look of your home.

Remove weeds around the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up areas where you will be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After being unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are unappetizing, but even worse they can make you and your family ill.

Wet it down to get rid of leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a plastic scrubber (so you do not leave behind metal particles that can sometimes get into food) and a detergent or degreaser.
